Starting and stopping monitoring remotely

The same monitoring toggle as the Mac's own — just reachable from a paired device.

Start Monitoring and Stop Monitoring in the companion app do exactly what flipping monitoring on or off does at the Mac itself — there's no separate remote-only mode. Starting still respects the delay and schedules configured on the Mac.

A command is durable: if the Mac is asleep, offline, or its relay connection has temporarily dropped, the relay holds onto the instruction and delivers it the moment the Mac reconnects, rather than silently discarding it.

The dot next to the Mac's name shows whether it's reachable right now, and the button shows Start Monitoring or Stop Monitoring to match its last-reported state — both refresh automatically every few seconds while the Dashboard is open, so the camera's status ("Monitoring" or "Not monitoring") is clear before you tap.

What the status words mean:

  1. Monitoring or Not monitoring: the camera itself confirmed it.
  2. Status unknown: the camera is connected, but hasn't confirmed whether it's monitoring yet. This usually clears within a minute.
  3. Offline: the camera isn't connected right now. It might be asleep, off, or without internet.
  4. Checking…: the app is still asking.
