Setting up the outgoing mail server
The server that sends your alerts. Most providers need an app-specific password, not your normal one.
Email alerts are sent through your own mail provider, so they arrive from your address and land in your inbox like any other mail.
What each field wants:
- Server and port — your provider's outgoing (SMTP) server, port 465. OdinCam encrypts the connection from the first byte, which providers call "SSL" or "SSL/TLS". Port 587 ("STARTTLS") doesn't work here.
- Username — nearly always the full email address.
- Password — for Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo and most others, an app-specific password generated in your account's security settings, not the password you sign in with. Providers refuse a normal password from an app like this one, and the refusal usually reads as "authentication failed".
Send a test message once it is filled in. A failure is reported with the server's own words, which is nearly always enough to say which field is wrong.
