Help Catch what matters, skip what doesn't

Why OdinCam errs toward recording

A spurious clip costs one deletion. A missed one can't be recovered.

OdinCam is set up on the assumption that missing something matters far more than recording something you didn't need. Deleting a clip takes a moment; there is no way to go back and capture an event that wasn't recorded.

That principle decides several defaults:

  • Motion sensitivity starts at 7 of 10 rather than in the middle.
  • Every filter that can discard an event is off by default — the person filter, sound classification, and "Both at once" (Settings › Sound). Each is genuinely useful, and each can throw away something real. Turning one on is a deliberate trade, so the app makes you make it.
  • When a person check fails outright — a Vision error rather than an absence of people — the event is kept rather than dropped.
  • Region matching for the person filter uses the region's bounding box rather than its exact shape, which is slightly permissive on purpose.

If you find yourself with too many clips, the order to reach for things is: tighten the region first, since it removes causes rather than masking them; then lower sensitivity a step; then raise the cooldown. Reach for the discarding filters last, and knowing what they cost.
